I am receiving a draft in my home in different areas of my home, what is the best way to retain the heat?

I just purchased a new home and I am seeing that my home is very secessible to the cold air through an in wall air conditioner, a patio door, front door, and windows. What can I do to combat the cold aside from replacing everything?

Most heat loss comes from windows and doors.

You can get a window insulation kit for about $10.00 to $20.00 these include double sided sticky tape and a clear plastic sheet.

Doors usually need weather stripping which is very inexpensive.

Cover the air conditioner outside the house. Then put plastic over the windows. They make special plastic for that. And install weather stripping on the doors.

I'm assuming that due to the fact that you have a window air conditioner that the house is older and has single pane windows. I would get an air conditioner blanket that covers the unit on the outside to control that draft. As far as the doors go try to see if you can figure out the brand and get new weatherstripping for them. also go to your local hardware store and buy some new surface mounted door sweeps to control any draft that is coming in the bottom of the door. As far as the windows go for the time being during winter you can put plastic over them to control drafts but maybe consider some vinyl replacement windows. Over the long run they will pay for themselves. Look into Farley windows out of Canada. They follow much more stringent air infiltration standards than the USA.

use caulking around all windows and doors, the air conditioner can be caulked around as well as covered for the winter.also there are kits available to re do the seal for doors and windows..
