How does someone puchase a home in another country?

I'm just interested in finding out what goes into buying a home in another country. Say I'm from the USA and want to puchase a home in the UK, what steps do I need to take? Do I need to do anything special to own property in another country?

I would first contact a Realtor in the country you want to buy property in. They are likely to know everything you need to know ... after all, it is their job to know.

Sometimes there are laws prohibiting foreigners from owning property in a nation. Check some websites about real estate in England.
