My midwife charges $2,600.
That includes all the prenatal appointments, the birth itself, the birth kit, in-home post-partum and well-baby checkups, vitamins and other natural remedies when needed, etc.
From what I've heard, her price is fairly typical, but I'm in Oregon, so not sure how much prices may vary on the east coast. You can look up midwives in your area, talk to several and compare prices.
My insurance covered all of my prenatal care, but not the actual cost of the birthing at home; if I had birthed in a hospital or birthing center it would have been covered.
The full package (prenatal, birthing fee, postnatal) was $2200. I had to pay about $450 out of pocket for my mw to come to our house for the birth. Worth EVERY penny.
Also, many mws will allow you to pay it out over a period of time rather than demand a lump sum up front.
I hope you can make the arrangements you want for a home birth! I had a great experience and wouldn't do it any other way. If you want more information feel free to contact me... I had twins at home and it was amazing.
It varies by area, but in MN, it's under $2,000. That includes prenatal, most labs, birth and postpartum care. Does not include ultrasounds, usually. These costs are about 4 years old. I would have to have a repeat c-section now, so a home VBAC isn't an option any longer.
You have to pay? That stinks! Thank God for the NHS....
