How can you do at home root touch up without leaving a weird mark in your hair?

If you use an at home root touch up kit, does it ever overlap the existing color and cause a weird break line or is it mostly undetectable. I don't want my hair to break off at a weak points way on top of my hair or something bizarre like that. But I want to bleach at home and maintain it with over the counter box kits. Is that a good or bad idea?

you would defiantly have to have someone help you, you can't see the back of your head, and you would want to be able to put it on fast, & not overlap, that is is the main thing no overlapping, even some professionals will overlap bad thing to do, over time it will weaken your hair and sometimes where you overlap at the color will be a bit different, depending on what you are using. In something with bleach I would say go to a salon or beauty school

bad idea bad bad bad.. and i dont even no why

How can I work from home using my computer?

I am currently unemployed. I always come across ads on craigslist, and careerbuilder, as well as other sites for work at home jobs. I know that the envelope stuffing gig is a scam but what about the clerical work, and data entry jobs. If anyone knows of any legitimate jobs where I can work from home, without paying astronomicals fees to start...Please respond.

You can make layouts/code websites for people and get paid.

check out my blog!!

This is a GREAT work from home opportunity!! It's Free sign up you will never be out of pocket with anything!!

Well, it depends on your skills.

You can earn money as a programmer; or as an editor;

or as a freelance scenarist and dialogue writer; or as a

medical transcriptionist; or as a graphical/video editor;

or as a website administrator (with paid advertisement

posted on your webpages); and in many other creative

ways.

I would like to propose you an honest, interesting and

healthy method of making money, using a computer:

buy yourself a decent photo camera and start making

photos! (landscapes, people, pets, industrial buildings,

etc.) Then, you can sell your photos. There are many

websites willing to buy photos--any kind of (well done)

photos! One example: http://www.istockphoto.com/introduction_photographer.php

Allright, this is a touchy subject:

What people call 'data entry' is actually online marketing.

Most places that you pay will train you to use Google marketing. This may or may not be for you. It is expensive, but the people who do well at it do very well. You can do online marketing and not use Google. There are ways to do it for free which are less time consuming and obviously less expensive, because they cost nothing. I used this company:

https://paydotcom.com/r/11436/juliearussell/1077546/

This lady does teach you how to do Google Adwords, but it's your choice. She also teaches you many ways to do free marketing. That is the benefit that she offers that no one else does.

I had signed on to this one place before and all they did was teach you how to use Google. They sucked at it and I got a refund.

Calling it data entry is a scam, but many people start it and love it. I didn't have any luck with using Google for marketing, but I did use the experience to figure out what I really wanted to do.

All in all, its a great opportunity. If you go with this, use the link above and maybe try free marketing first.

Whatever you do don't use www.affluwealth.com

of course..I do it

Hi I am a mother of two beautiful children, and like you I was looking for a way to stay at home with my kids and earn an income at the same time. I was searching all over the internet for a legitimate work at home job. And of course i was scammed and lost some money but I didn’t give up and kept on looking for what to do online till i found a survey site and started taking surveys. but it wasn’t enough to be signed up to one or two sites so I was looking for more sites that pay cash and not survey sites that enter you in a sweepstakes or try to sell you something or only pay you to fill out some offers. I found a few sites that had big lists of survey sites but most of their links were outdated or duplicate or they were just sweepstakes or a site that wanted to sell me things and called it a survey. Finally I found this site www. cashsurveysonly .com it has a list of survey companies that are free to join and pay cash.

YES! There are legit work at home options…….I looked for 3 years before I found a good one! Learn from my experiences….lol

I’m a stay at home mom of two little girls a 1 year old and a 3 year old. I work about 15-18 hours per week for a National Medical Benefits Company. I have been with the company for 6 months and am now making over $2500 a month! In your first month, depending on how many hours you can work I have seen people make anywhere from $500-$2000. And your income will increase each month because we get paid residual income as well. If I continue on as I am going at the end of the year I will be making $5000 a month. My friend Becky started 2 years before me. She is now making $95,000 a year.

The best part is they have 401(k), direct deposit and a benefits package. In addition, there are no products, no hard selling or pushing, no cold calling and no telemarketing! That was VERY important to me.

I absolutely love working with them and I can't believe I am making what I am making and in so few hours per week. The neat thing is there are other people on your team that you work with so you are never alone. The support is great but I have made wonderful friends as well. I think that’s important too, especially being at home!

I was a bit apprehensive at first because I know a lot of companies are not legit but this company is the number one National Medical Benefits Company in the US. They are a member of the US Chamber of Commerce which is very impressive. Also they were featured in “The New York Times”, “Wall Street Journal” and the “American Medical Review”. Even “60 Minutes” with Morley Safer did a big special on them!

Even more then all this is they are accepted at over 100,000 retailers nation wide. These are fortune 500 companies like Sears, Target, Walgreens, CVS, Wal-mart and more. These companies would never work with a company that was any thing less then reputable. That made me feel very good about working with them knowing they were accepted at the stores I frequent. Also now of course being with them I get the benefits for free and I saved over $150 on my last visit to the dentist! That’s just a beautiful perk! : - )

When I first started I just felt very safe with them…. that and my friend was already making so much money with them! But at this point I feel a sense of security financially that our family has never had before. That plus LOVING what you do? What could be better?

Check them out! Just type in www.workathomeplus.net in your web browser.

P.S. If you are looking for a JOB there should be NO cost and I would NEVER pay or encourage anyone to pay money to work FOR someone else. This is a business, an inexpensive home business of your own, where you are your own boss. Of course it does cost some money to start any home business but that does NOT mean you should pay $500 or even $1000 to start a home business. Our start up costs are less then $100 bucks and we get SO much for that. Each month we cover only a very small portion of what it really costs to run our businesses, the company pays the rest for us. Including all of our web sites, training, materials, 401k, direct deposit, medical benefits and more. This company basically makes it possible for you to own your own home business and they foot almost 100% of the bill!!! Without them I never would have been able to afford my own business!

How difficult is it to work from home doing medical billing and coding?

I am studying through a online Institute for medical billing and coding. I actually want to be able to work from home so I can be with my three young children. Does anyone know how difficult it would be to do this type of work from home? Are there many medical groups that let "biller and coders" :) work from home?

Be careful on companies advertising online that they can do this for you. Often times you end up paying a fee, you are given some basic training info then you are off on your own to get your own customers. I would check into a community college, learn a skill like medical billing then market yourself directly to doctors and medical groups. Also, find somebody on line maybe through a forum and ask them how they got started. good luck

Good luck with medical billing. I had no luck doing medical transcripts because I had to contact the doctors office and speak with the doctor about doing transcripts. I had to fill out an application to work there and they wanted aqll of my information! Try http://www.pcvideogamespot.com for WFH job http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20090302215632AAbiNoS&kid=H8FEXTfjK2xc5VxIPBez&s=comm&date=2009-03-17+19%3A10%3A40&.crumb=

Beyond your schooling, you will need at least 2-3 years experience, references and referrals before you can really start obtaining clients to do the work at home. And how are you going to concentrate on getting your work done accurately and on time if you have kids running around? How are you going to talk to clients on the phone if the kids start screaming? You'll need to work that out. If you are running a biz, you cannot have children interrupt any phone conversation or be heard in the background.

Medical billing can offer an excellent opportunity to create a lucrative home-based business; in fact, it is one of the top home-based businesses today! However, work-from-home scams abound in every industry, and medical billing is no exception. Here are a few warning signs that may indicate that the medical billing company you are dealing with is a scam:

They require money upfront. You should never give a company money in order to launch your home-based business. They do not require an education. You need a degree or certificate in medical billing in order to successfully navigate the industry - period.

Their only contact information is an 800 number. Make sure the company has an address or local phone number in addition to an 800 number. They “guarantee” a certain income. While medical billing can be a very profitable business, no one can “guarantee” a huge salary right away.

They claim to be their own clearinghouse company. Remember, the key with your home-based medical billing business is research. Investigate any company you’re interested in by contacting the Better Business Bureau (BBB) before you agree to do business with them.

You may also want to contact a trusted friend or colleague in the medical billing business for referrals or recommendations. Keep these red flags in mind and you’ll be well-equipped to avoid work-from-home scams!

Sorry, I don't know about medical billing but if you want to work from home you should check out www.beyourownbossplus.net. I work for a medical discount company from home. It is a 15 year old company and is a member of US Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Dental Plans. If you look into it you will find out that it is a legitimate 100 million dollar company. The best part is you can earn money while helping people save on medical expenses which is very important considering today's economy and people losing their jobs and benefits. You would work as an independent contractor and make your own hours. There is no telemarketing or cold calling. I actually learned about the company from Yahoo answers and I am glad I did.

Online medical billing and coding schools are very suspect when it comes to training on the latest medical/billing software since most medical centers have very customized medical software which is not normally shared with trade schools and the like. In the real world of medical billing and coding, training occurs on-the-job. We therefore do not recommend that you subscribe to any online school for medical billing and coding and concentrate on entering a medical internship program at your local medical facility/center for medical billing/coding.

On another subject: the major bulk of medical billing/coding work in the U.S. has been greatly curtailed by state privacy laws as it pertains to medical records and patient confidentiality. The vast majority of medical records are kept in recordkeeping departments within medical centers and any billing/coding work is done "in-house," not "outsourced." So, beware of any offers which promote online in home medical billing/coding work--there are scammers out there.

Good luck!

Hi, what school do you attend online for medical billing and coding?

there are some schools that only offer certification for that field. But if you want to make good $$ i suggest you go for you're associates Degree. Not alot of schools offer associates Degree. Also, it is suggested that you first work at a hospital for at least a year before you branch out at home. and some hospitals will offer you to work from home, you will still be there employee with benefits and all, but you will do it from home. that is the best way to do it first before you go on you're own. I am actually attending Devry University for Health Information Technology Medical Billing and Coding Associates Degree. They offer a life time Job placement So I wont go wrong with that.

I am taking online classes right now.I am actually getting 3 different certificates. Medical claims and billing, medical transcription, medical and dental assistant. I know 83% of people who are doing medical transcription work from home. I know that if your a medical biller you can work from home. it is more like proabably 45% work from home but you can still work from home. You just have to find a doctor who wants there empoyees to do it from home. You can have your own business and contract yourself out or you can just work for one doctor and do his/her work from home. That is what i am going to start out doing. If you do the billing you can work from home even though you have 3 kids. IT might be a little harder but you can do it. Us mothers can do anything. I have 2 small children and thats why I amgettign these certificates so I can be home with them. good luck!

You will want to get certified when you are done. See the AHIMA website and www.med-certification.com for more information on that. There are some national coding companies where you can work at home, but you may want to get some practice in a doctor's office first.

Why does home made ice cream become a stone in the freezer and store ice cream is still scoopable?

Is there something I can add to my home made ice cream so it doesn't become frozen like an ice cube?

store bought icecream is whipped full of air, up to 50%. that makes it soft enough to scoop at freezer temps.

store bought icecream is full of air

which makes it softer, creamier

homemade ice cream is generally made to be eaten right away

There are chemicals that they add that you don't have access to, look on the average container of ice cream and all those words you can't pronounce easily if at all, those are them.

The air in the mix is also an issue.

If you want to learn more about this kind of stuff I recommend the "Good Eats" program on Food Network if you get that channel.

If it is a custard based ice cream prepared with high fat cream (36%), it will be less inclined to turn into a solid brick. Also, too much sugar can make it harder.

Commercially made ice cream has a lot of air in it - this can be seen when cheaper brands melt ... you end up with a good bit of foam.

There really is nothing you can add to it to stop the harder freezing. That is just the nature of homemade ice cream.

The way I deal with it is to temper it. Take it out of the freezer and put it in the fridge for about 20 - 30 minutes before serving.

Air - your not leaving the dasher running long enough. The more air you have in the mix the softer it will stay. Another good trick is to use lower fat milk (3%) instead of cream (6%) (and it has less calories). Good Luck!

Commercially produced ice cream contains air mixed into it. This is called over-run. Regular brands have 100% product and 100% air, the premium brands have closer to 80% air. This helps make it soft. Also the emulsifiers and the stabilizers-'chemicals'-play a part. Some sorbets and granita recipes have alcohol in them. This will keep them from freezing completely. Homemade ice cream is such a great thing that I wouldn't want to add anything to it to make it more like the store brands. Just take it out or put it in the fridge before you plan to serve it. And then -save some for me!

cause store ice cream has tons of air and also additives

vs. home made one just have natural basic ingredients without the added air, preservatives or additives

If you put your freezer to the lowest setting, it won't be that hard. It's easy to scoop. Our freezer has settings from 1-5. I put it on 1. Meats are still frozen...

It's because before scooping, most ice cream stores keep their scoopers in hot water, so when they scoop the ice cream, it is a lot easier.

How should I run a home run derby for kids?

I’m running a home run derby for little league on opening day. How many outs should kids get, and how do you score points with a hit if the kids can’t hit home runs?

Each kid should get 10-12 outs. Since at that age it's difficult to hit a "home run" (i.e. over-the-fencer), it's a good idea to mark certain distances as different point zones, with the further distances being worth more points.

You can take some simple white packaging tape and outline areas in the field as follows:

Infield hit / ground ball = 0 points & 1 out

90ft-to-110ft = 5 points, 1 out

110ft-to-130ft = 10 points, 1 out

130ft-150ft = 15 points, 1 out

150ft-170ft = 20 points, 1 out

170ft-190ft = 25 points, 1 out

190ft=200+ft = HOME RUN = 30 points, 0 outs

This can be used to get to a "final two" showdown. Then, each gets ten outs in the final round. Most points wins.

When I was in little league my farthest shot (at 11 years old) was 210 ft, and that won the home run derby. 200ft is the average "home run" distance for a little league home run derby.

Have fun!

Dumb idea>LL kids should learn how to hit singles and doubles , rather than be encouraged to develop all of the bad hitting habits that HR hitters must have in order to succeed

5 outs. make an area with something so you have to hit past that area

How do you find a home for a stray kitten?

we found a stray kitten out sit a building. we brought him home but we already have 3 cats. we don't want to give him to the animal shelter because the euthinis the animals they can't find homes for. So please help.

I have put kittens on www.petfinder.com and have been very sucessful in finding homes for strays, I have found homes for 20 this year alone. Be careful though there is a scam on there where someone will offer you big bucks to ship your pet somewhere just don't respond to those. On petfinders someone will contact you through phone or e-mail and you can ask them any questions you like, that way you can make sure they are going to good homes.

take him to an adoption center...they'll take good care of him

put a small santa hat on him and take him to a local store, stand out side the store and ask people of they want a free christmas kitten. this worked for me. one time my mom told me that if I didn't get rid of a kitten she was going to take him to the animal shelter. so, I got my butt to albertsons and waited for about a half an hour until someone claimed the kitty. I have done this twice and it worked both times.

if you live in New City, NY i wan't to take in a cat. You can email me the details at schocolate238@aol.com.

Kittens can be at a premium around the Christmas season. If you can afford to take the kitten in for a vet check, worming, testing for feline disease and started on his shots then you can place an ad in the paper to try to find him a home.

If you do not want, or can't, do this for him at around $100 then you must surrender him to a shelter where he can be treated medically and placed for adoption.

Your "rescue" of him is commendable and you need to follow through to give him a chance at a good, healthy life.

If you do advertise him for adoption be sure to screen potential adopters - they should have veterinary references (be sure to check). You might take a refundable deposit on his future neutering too. When they bring you papers assuring that the job has been done you can give the money back to them. I don't think $50 is out of line on that.

you could take the kitten to a no kill shelter. if it were me i would keep it. even though i have 9 cats

Keep him with your 3 Cats.

Put an ad in the paper. A lot of newspapers have free ads for this. Also there are rescue organizations that can help. SPCA in California is good. Here in Arkansas we have an organization called FURR especially for cats. Also if you have a PETCO store, check with them, they have adoptions on Saturdays.

Right now I have four kittens myself I need homes for, I put an ad in the paper. Good luck!

Advertise the kitten as a Christmas kitten.

Home foreclosure and where does the bidding start?

Due to unfortunate circumstances my husband and I had to give up our family home. After trying to sell it, we were unable to in the time we needed to and had to let the home go into foreclosure.

What I would like to know is when a home goes to auction or a Sheriff's Sale, what is the starting price? Is there guidelines as to where they can start the bidding as far as numbers go?

If you had mortgage insurance it will become a HUD home. It usually takes about 3 months for a HUD home to come open for bids. As stated in another answer the asking price will be what is left on the mortgage. The bidding is open for 30 days and at the end of the 30 days the highest bid that is greater than 80% of the asking price wins the bid. If there are no bids that are at least 80% of the asking price the home is put on a daily bid list and will be sold to the highest bidder that meets the 80% rule.

In most cases the lender bids on the home to recover the mortgage amount and fee's associated with the foreclosure. It doesn't mean that someone else can't win the bid by going higher.

What at home hair color brand would you say works the best?

I am looking to save a little money and dye my hair at home for the first time. I am a brunette with some grown out highlights looking to go a darker brunette and even everything out. I am looking for something "fool proof" as I have never done it myself.

To answer your question, I like Clairol.

Since you've never done your hair at home, I would recommend picking a box that is lighter than the actual color you want (it usually comes out darker than you think it will). Also, It's easier to re-dye and go darker than it is to go back lighter. Secondly, I would use a semi-permanent color in case you hate how it turns out. No box color is "fool proof", but following the directions meticulously is your best bet.

I like revlon and loreal.

I would choose Loreal, it is easy and have clear instruction.

Ok How how about a home party plan that is very different from all the others? thanks?

Thanks for all that have answered my home business question so far. I want a home party business that very few people know about, but it is real.

I found a great work at home company. I'm with Stayin Home and Lovin It! and they are partnered with a wellness company that is 21 years old and in good standing with the better business beaural. The products are all environmentally friendly and safer for you and your family. They have cleaning products, shampoo, soap, candles, toothpaste, acne solutions, make-up, health bars, and so much more. Most products are made of tea tree oil. They have a dis-infectant that is approved for schools and daycares that is so much safer than bleach and smells so good to me. You can do in home parties and I heard those that do do really make money at this. You could make a full income in no time if you really work at it. The best part is you bring people to the company then they can shop on line but you get a commission for everything they buy as long as they buy. No stocking any products or reselling. No risk. I think you will really find this company worth checking into. check out http://healthybetterme.com/

Feel free to contact me anytime for more information. There is so much to tell. And remember to look up every company you consider at search.bbb.org.

How can I work at home without having to pay a membership fee?

I would like to work from home using my computer, phone and fax. Is there any way that I could get a job from my home but not having me to pay a membership fee?

membership fee for what...you can work form home for free as long as you dont break your local authority rules

Due to health problems, my husband has been unemployed since last May. I am the only income. After numerous scams, I am finally making good money online from various sources. Visit my blog (click on my profile) to learn about them. ALL ARE FREE TO JOIN - I am making really good money with these. Good Luck

Since I am not allowed to post links here, per Yahoo policy, click on my avatar and click on my profile. I make over $200 extra per month doing this part-time. GOOD LUCK!

Check out www.mybizbreak.com/workathome for legitimate job postings for working at home. Great opportunites!! Good luck!

Never pay upfront for a company to work for!!

I would assume you are asking for leads on envelope stuffing or online surveys where you pay upfront for the details that will have you on the road to wealth in no time. The reality is those kinds of Multilevel Marketing (MLM) gimmicks are the way people get paid is with the upfront money for signups. Let's face it... you won't make any money working for someone else so you will want to work for yourself using your computer, your phone, your fax, your time and your energy. What are you good at? Forget that. What are you GREAT at??? That's what you want to concentrate on whether that is a product or service. You can set your own price, set your own hours, accept or outsource business you want or don't want. It starts with a plan and then licenses/permits/tax ID, and then 100% determination to succeed. Some people write, some people teach, some sell on Ebay, some bake desserts, and some produce products. What do you do??? It'll cost you about $50 for a business license (deductible) to get started but don't skip the very important step of business planning. The SBA and Score will offer you free entreprenueral advice on your own business once you determine what you want to do and have a business license. Start out small and think big. Don't wait for your ship to come in, swim out to meet it.

How can I list my home for sale on the internet and reach people in other parts of the country?

I have a home for sale in a very small town. I have put it on Craig's List, but they only allow you to post in ONE list for ONE city or area. I am looking for another similar way to list my home in larger cities. Preferably for free. I would appreciate any advice.

Thank You.

There are two pretty good sites which are both free. They both require you to update your listing at least every 30 days.

www.trulia.com

and

www.zillow.com

I use these sites as well as the MLS. Unfortunately, the MLS does not transfer listings to these sites most of the time.

Check out http://www.freehomeownerlistings.com also. It's a newer place to list your home for sale and it's free. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20080823131951AAF34k6&kid=B7pwL3T_VHq3sG6I3FS1&s=comm&date=2008-11-13+11%3A38%3A31&.crumb=

If your agent has it in the MLS it will be uploaded into every website known to man. Along with photos and often other documents.

I would hire a REALTOR...there's many websites that will allow you to list properties for sale free of charge! Just dig a little...

call them

Is your home clean and organized before you leave the house?

I have a few friends who are so organized that everything is tidy before they leave the house. I feel like I would only leave in the afternoon if that was the case.

I have a large home, hubby and two young boys.

nope. sorry I really wish I was that organized. I have a life

that is busy also and I just don't have time to be decluttered. My house is clean ie not great hunks of dirt everywhere but it is definitely cluttered and disorganized most of the time.

nope. especially with two young boys it is nearly impossible!

Absoluetly

Can I have your best home made pasta sauce recipes please?

I am really after some tried and true home made recipes. One's that you have tried and use at home. Its very easy to look for pasta sauce recipies on the net. Thanks very much, I appreciate the time given.

Best one i make is bacon, panfried with chilli and garlic, then tomato puree, tomato paste, and a hefty serving of white wine are added. Cooked down, stirred through some lovely linguine, drizzled liberally with olive oil and parmesean shavings. Takes 12 minutes tops!

Another good one is Shrimp, garlic, olive oil and white wine- pan fried for 5 min with some chilli flakes and mixed with pasta and a touch of cream if you have any!

I like all of these. They are T&T by me!

Mushroom Walnut Sauce for Pasta

2 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil

8 oz. Mushrooms - sliced

1/4 C. Walnuts - chopped

3/4 C. Heavy whipping cream

1/4 tsp. Black pepper

1/2 C. Fresh Parmesan - grated

Heat olive oil in large skillet over medium heat. Saute mushrooms and walnuts until mushrooms are golden. Add cream and cook stirring frequently for 5 minutes until slightly thickened. Turn heat to warm and when cream stops simmering, add pepper and Parmesan and stir until sauce is smooth. Do not boil. Serve over pasta. Especially good w/ stuffed pastas.

---------------------------------

Pasta Puttanesca

2 Tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil

4 to 6 cloves garlic, chopped

1 tin flat anchovy fillets, drained

½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes

20 oil-cured black olives, pitted and coarsely chopped

3 Tbsp. capers

1 (14.5-oz) can diced tomatoes, drained

A few grinds black pepper

1/4 cup flat leaf parsley, chopped

1 pound spaghetti, cooked to al dente

Crusty bread, for mopping

Grated Parmigiano Reggiano or Romano, for garnish

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add oil, garlic, anchovies, and crushed pepper. Saute mixture until anchovies melt into oil and completely dissolve and garlic is tender, about 3 minutes: your kitchen never smelled so good! Add olives, capers, tomatoes, black pepper, and parsley. Bring sauce to a bubble, reduce heat, and simmer 8 to 10 minutes.

Toss sauce with cooked pasta. Pass bread and cheese at the table. Serve w/ salad of baby greens, simple dressed.

Mark Strausman’s Tomato Sauce

--Makes about 9 cups

If you are preparing this recipe in August or September, use fresh plum tomatoes, which are at the height of their season then. Cut them into large pieces, and run them through the food mill just as you would canned tomatoes. Slow cooking will allow the skin to melt into the sauce. For canned tomatoes, Mark likes to use Italian plum tomatoes from the Italian San Marzano Valley. ("CENTO" is one brand.)

4 (28 oz) cans whole Italian plum tomatoes

1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil

3 cloves garlic, thinly sliced

1 tsp. crushed red-pepper flakes

1 cup Chianti or dry red wine

1 Tbsp. dried oregano

8 leaves fresh basil

Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Purée tomatoes in a food mill, removing most of the seeds. In a medium stockpot, heat olive oil over medium heat, add garlic, and sauté until golden brown, 1 to 2 minutes. Add red-pepper flakes. While oil is sizzling, slowly add half of the puréed tomatoes and the wine, stirring to mix. Add remaining tomatoes, reduce heat to low, and let simmer. Add oregano, and continue to simmer until slightly thickened, 1 1/2 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally. Add basil. Season with salt and pepper to taste. The sauce may be kept in the refrigerator up to 3 or 4 days in an airtight plastic container or in the freezer for up to 1 month.

--------------------------------------...

Real Fettucine Alredo

1 pound fresh fettucine

8 Tbsp. butter

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup freshly grated Parmigginao-Reggiano cheese

Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Freshly grated nutmeg

As the water for the pasta begins to boil, melt butter in large sauté pan over low heat. Add cream to butter and let it warm.

At the same time, salt the pasta water and cook until al dente. Drain pasta thoroughly, and mix with butter and cream in sauté pan over low heat. Add cheese and toss until sauce thickens slightly. Season with pepper and nutmeg.

Remove from heat and serve immediately with additional cheese on the side.

Serves 4-6

2 Tbsp. butter

2 Tbsp. EVOO

1 tsp. minced garlic

Sprinkle with pine nuts and parmesan cheese, if desired, and serve. Serves 6-8

--Ina Garten, "Barefoot Contessa Family Style" cookbook

This is good old fashioned Bolgonese - but very yummy. I make this usually at least once a week (my husband's addicted to it)

1 Onion

5 cloves garlic

2 rashers streaky bacon

2 tblsps olive oil

1/2 lb steak mince

1 tin chopped tomatoes

2 tblsps tomato puree

2 bay leaves

oregano

5 tblsps red wine

salt and pepper

1. Chop the onions, garlic and bacon and fry gently in the olive oil in a large deep frying pan until soft

2. Push the onion, garlic & bacon to the side of the pan, turn up the heat and add the steak mince - fry until the meat is nicely browned.

3. Add the tinned tomatoes and the tomato puree and mix.

4. Add the bay leaves, a good pinch of oregano and the wine, salt & pepper, mix well.

5. Cover the pan and simmer for 30 minutes or so then a further 20 minutes or so.

I start by browning a pound of ground beef. I set this to drain while starting my sauce.

1 large can tomato sauce

1 small can mushrooms

the seasons I use vary from time to time and who's coming to dinner.

basically I add a lot of garlic powder, something called "italian seasoning" that McCormick produces, tarragon, rosemary, lemon pepper, and a tsp of red wine.

I also add green, red, and yellow bell peppers, and white onion. All are diced either fresh or from my frozen leftovers.

If I want it to be spicier, I add sliced green olives and a bit a chili powder.

Sorry I can't be more specific. I taste it the entire time I make it. Measuring spoons are not used at all, even with the wine. :)

Once all the spices are mixed together, I add the meat and simmer until my pasta is done.

This makes a lot of sauce, which can be frozen and thawed a month or more later and tastes just as good.

Here are a few that are my tried & true recipes. Hope you enjoy!

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup shredded provolone cheese

Gradually stir in grated Parmesan cheese, grated mozzarella cheese, grated provolone cheese, and grated Romano cheese. Reduce heat to low, and continue to stir just until all cheese is melted.

Serve immediately, sauce will thicken upon standing.

Roasted Red Pepper Cream Sauce

3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

2 cups half-and-half

1/4 cup grated Romano cheese

Preheat broiler. Lightly coat the red peppers with olive oil. Grill peppers under the broiler until the skin is blackened, and the flesh has softened slightly. Place peppers in a paper bag or resealable plastic bag to cool for approximately 45 minutes.

Remove the seeds and skin from the peppers (the skin should come off the peppers easily now). Cut peppers into small pieces.

In a skillet, cook and stir the garlic, basil, and red peppers in 3 tablespoons olive oil over medium heat. Cook for 10 minutes, so that the flavors mix.

Place mixture in blender (careful it is hot), and puree to desired consistency. Return puree to skillet, and reheat to a boil. Stir in the half-and-half and the Romano cheese; cook and stir until the cheese melts. Add the butter, and stir until melted. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 5 minutes.

White Wine & Garlic Sauce

INGREDIENTS

2 tablespoons butter

6 large shallots, sliced thinly

8 cloves garlic, chopped

3 cups white wine, divided

ground white pepper to taste

DIRECTIONS

Melt butter in a medium saucepan over low heat. Cook and stir the shallots until they become translucent and tender; stir in garlic and cook until tender and aromatic.

Stir in 1 cup white wine, increase heat to high and bring to a boil. Once it boils, add the remaining 1/2 cup wine. Boil for 10 minutes then reduce heat to medium-low. Season with white pepper to taste.

When sauce is no longer boiling, slowly stir in cream, lemon juice and salt. Simmer for 3 to 5 minutes.

Buttery Herb Wine Sauce

1/4 cup butter

1 (4 ounce) jar mushrooms, drained

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup white wine

2 teaspoons Italian seasoning

1 cup chicken broth

1 egg

1/2 cup heavy cream

DIRECTIONS

Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the mushrooms and cook until browned. Mix in flour, Italian seasoning and salt until smooth. Gradually stir in wine and chicken broth so that no lumps form and bring to a simmer. Whisk together the egg and cream; stir into the sauce. Heat through until thickened, but do not allow it to boil.

Amish Tomato Basil Fettuccine with Creamy Tomato Sauce

12 oz Naturals Tomato Basil Fettuccine

4 qt Water

1 Tbsp Kosher Salt

1/4 cup Onion, small dice

1/2 tsp Garlic

1/4 cup White Wine

6 Ripe Roma Tomatoes

2 cups Heavy Whipping Cream

Salt and Pepper to Taste

Asiago or Parmesan Cheese

Boil water with tablespoon of kosher salt in large covered stock pot. Remove lid, add pasta and boil for 11-13 minutes or until al dente (soft but not overcooked). Drain pasta through colander and rinse immediately with cold water to stop cooking process. Set aside.

In small sauce pan boil 3 quarts water. Core and score (lightly cut x marks into base of tomato) roma tomatoes. Prepare bowl of ice water to shock tomatoes in. Place tomatoes in boiling water for about 30 seconds then shock in ice water. When tomatoes are cool, peel away skin and cut into quarters. With paring knife remove seeds and juice and discard-leaving only the meaty outer layer. Cut into 1/4 inch cubes.

In large saute pan (not non- stick) heat oil and sauté onions until golden in color, then add garlic and half of tomatoes. Saute at medium-high heat and allow sugars to caramelize on bottom of pan (this is very good for flavor). Deglaze with white wine and scrape bottom of pan with wooden spoon. Turn heat to low and add cream, simmer and allow to reduce (moisture evaporate) until sauce coats back of spoon. Add remaining tomatoes and salt and pepper to taste. Toss in pasta and cook long enough to fully heat. Serve with freshly grated cheese.

Mine is actually different everytime but still good.

Stewed tomatos crushed or diced -canned or home peeled and stewed

2-3 Tablespoons or a palm full of sugar

1 small can tomato paste

Chicken Broth

Water

1-2 Tablespoons butter

Garlic

Onion

Celery

Carrots

Any other left over or fav veggies such as zuccini, yellow crooked neck squash, spinach, cilantro-parsley, mushrooms, bell peppers etc...

Salt/pepper and any other spices you like (itallian seasoning garlic and onion powder/salt, dried parsley, celery salt, seasoned salt etc...)

Sautee the onions, garlic, and celery in the butter. (the butter adds a nice smooth flavor to the sauce). Add the carrots and other veggies adding more butter if needed. Then add the broth, tomatoes and tomato paste, sugar and other veggies. Boil until the veggies are nice and tender. If you like a chunky sauce then just chop all the ingrediants to small bite size pieces. If not then rough chop and then biul to tender and place in a blender or food processor and puree to desired consistancy. Or you can blend some and leave some chunky then mix the two. Then add salt pepper and other seasonings to taste. The garlic and onion powder or salt may sound like over kill because you already have onion and garlic in the sauce but it just adds a little more to the flavor.

Also adding parmesean cheese before you serve is good too!

What percentage of your take home pay would/do you spend on your mortgage?

I am a first time buyer in London, and am wondering what percentage of take home pay other home owners (not necessarily in London) spend on their mortgage payments on a monthly basis (repayment and interest). Is 40% crazy?? Thanks.

50% on the high end. Ideally you are around 36%.

The more you are paying for your mortgage the less you have to spend on other things.

For more than fifty years there was a rule of thumb that banks and credit unions used. Today it seems to be "Don't worry be happy" but the rule was no more than 25% af your take home pay for Mortgage. In many cases banks would ask for 20% down but now 10% or even 5% is ok.

40% of our net income is crazy to spend on your mortgage. Someone who does that will most likely be foreclosed in a year or two.

Typically, for your own financial well being it is recommended that you spend no more than 25% of your net monthly income on your monthly mortgage payments. This is usually to protect you against rate hikes in interest rates etc.

I, personally, never spend more than 20% of net income on rent or monthly mortgages.

40% is usually the maximum the bank will allow to lend you the money i.e. if you earn 1000 pounds a month and have no other debts, the bank will only lend to you if your mortgage monthly payments do not exceed 400 pounds a month. 40% is pretty normal.

In the USA, the advice was no more than one week's paycheck towards your mortgage/rent. Anything more, then you will have not as much play with your income. However, looking at this country, I sincerely doubt that what is most people are doing.

Between 25-30% is about average.

Standard Front end riatio is typically between 25% - 30% of your gross Income.

My mortgage is just over one third of my wages, but maybe my situation is a bit different to others because I have a very small mortgage (although it is still over 25 years) but I only I work part time and live alone. It is a struggle for me to make ends meet.

I would not have a mortgage full stop. I do not want a debt that will take 20 years plus to pay off, life is too short.

we don't have one

I could see maybe paying $400 a month if the land AND the buidings were both nice

It depend on how much you make and how much your mortgage is. Small salary, big mortgage = probably all of it or most of it will go to mortgage.

I spend about 20% if I take this other job it will be less then 10%. But I got a small house and I could of had something a lot bigger, I was approved for over $180,000 and got one for $52,000. My wife also works, but she does not pay for the house at all.

Hi Ben, I guess it depends on whether you want a work at home JOB or a work from home business opportunity as to whether my comments will be relevant to you. Regardless, I hope my answer will be of some benefit to you.

Let me share with you a little of my experience and add my two cents worth.

There are many businesses opportunities advertised on the internet, many of them legitimate, successful businesses, many of them not!

It takes diligence to weed out what's what.

Without intending to pin tickets on myself, I consider myself a reasonably well educated person with professional training and life experience behind me, but........

I have been 'taken for a ride' with a couple of online opportunities offering much and providing little - or less - nothing. I lost money when I could least afford it and I became very angry.

Having said that, I was also desperate to improve my financial situation and being a 'suddenly single' mother of four who has health issues, I felt that home based business was the only way to go.

So, I started researching - DETERMINED NEVER TO BE SCAMMED AGAIN.

In short, here's what I've discovered:

For any business to be legitimate, it must offer either a product or a service. If it doesn't offer product or service then it is a scam and illegal.

Be aware of get rich quick schemes - there is no such thing. Any legitimate business takes work and effort on your part and requires building. It takes time to build the foundations of any venture - how much time is dependent on your own efforts and relatively speedy advancement is certainly achievable if you are prepared to put in the hours. (As the saying goes, if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is.)

Ensure the organization offers full support and training. It's easy to sign someone up for a business but it takes commitment and effort on the part of the enroller to train and support you in your efforts. Make sure you are not going to outlay your money and then be left with no communication or help.

And speaking of money - determine how much the business is going to cost you to get started and what that fee actually gets you. If it only gets you permission to view a certain website then I'd seriously think again.

It is reasonable to expect some start-up and on-going costs in a legitimate business - no such thing as a free lunch - but determine, not only how much is will cost you to start but more importantly, what your ongoing costs will be. A business may be low cost to start but then require an outlay of thousands of dollars each month to qualify you for your pay.

Don't be forced, convinced, badgered or 'talked into' committing to a cost which is above your budget, no matter what the apparent 'limited' offer may be. Many scammers offer you a reduced price but 'only for today' for instance. If a prospective business partner is not prepared to help you achieve success without causing you undue financial stress, then I'd be steering way clear. You know how much money you have to invest in your business, whether that be $50, $500, $1500 or more. Anyone offering you a business opportunity should be able to cater to your budget to a certain degree.

Ensure than any organisation you are looking at joining is listed with the Direct Selling Association. Direct Selling and Multi Level Marketing businesses are very legitimate and legal and are certainly not pyramid. Pyramid schemes are illegal. MLM and Direct Selling businesses are very, very profitable if conducted in the correct way. Check the company's Compensation Plan to see what benefits you are entitled to and how teams are structured. This is very important as some team structures result in a high attrition rate, which benefits no-one.

I am currently involved in my own very successful home business and whilst it is not my intention necessarily to promote my own business here, I encourage you to visit my website and also another link which I will post here - You will find further links on what to look for in a home based business.

How does someone puchase a home in another country?

I'm just interested in finding out what goes into buying a home in another country. Say I'm from the USA and want to puchase a home in the UK, what steps do I need to take? Do I need to do anything special to own property in another country?

I would first contact a Realtor in the country you want to buy property in. They are likely to know everything you need to know ... after all, it is their job to know.

Sometimes there are laws prohibiting foreigners from owning property in a nation. Check some websites about real estate in England.

need to be a citzen most places besides the US

not a good time exchange rate is really bad.....

How do you make a home nuclear generator to power electricity?

Hey. I am tired of paying the electricity bill and got fined for taking my neighbours from his pond. Turned out he never watched tv or had a computer. When his bill went from £10 a month to £150 he got suspicious and found the cable and adaptor that I had connected to his fish pond in the back garden. Anyway thats another story. I did bury the cable but obviously he unearthed it.

I know some people use solar plates to provide electricity for their home, but this costs too much. I don't have £25.000 to spare for this stuff. Also it is a rented place so I don't even own the roof.

I was thinking of a nuclear generator that I can build at home and use to power my electricity usage off uranium or something. I am really good with building gadgets, and know where I can get weapons grade uranium from cheap. I just need advice or a walkthrough on how to build a mini nuclear power plant in my own kitchen.

You likely don't have the space to build a nuclear generator and provide adequate shielding. The uranium in a nuclear plant is basically a heat source, used to heat either water or liquid sodium which then drives an electromagnetic turbine. So you need room to put the turbine. Liquid sodium is tricky to handle -- it tends to catch fire when exposed to water -- and water used in a nuclear plant turns to steam, and requires some containment vessels.

You also need a place for the water or sodium to cool off after it drives the turbine. A commercial water-cooled nuclear plant uses a cooling tower on the order of 100m high (about like a 30-floor building). For residential use you don't need a 100m tower (nor would the landlord let you install it through your roof) but you will still need some place to let the water or sodium cool.

In 1994 a boy scout who lived near Detroit, Michigan collected americium from smoke detectors and thorium from lantern mantles and built a sort of working nuclear reactor, but the radioactivity spread across his neighborhood and he never got working power out of it. He did, however, attract the attention of the federal government, which took away the radioactive materials and his mother's tool shed (which had become radioactive) and some other things that had become radioactive.

If you don't in fact have weapons grade uranium, but only commercial uranium, then you may need to enrich the stuff (meaning to sort out the U-235 from the U-238), because the U-235 is fissionable and the U-238 is not. To do this properly you need the facility to work with uranium hexafluoride (a gas) and in particular to run it through a centrifuge, then to remove the fluorine from the uranium. Fluorine is toxic and corrosive and eats just about everything except fluorspar. It's difficult to handle and store, and you'll run into major problems trying to combine it with the uranium and then to dissociate it from the uranium.

Overall you're going to be much happier spending your money on solar plates. Sorry!

Okay, first of all it really scares me if you really can get weapons grade uranium for cheap. It is a very highly controlled substance and it is very hard to believe that if you can get it that you could get it for less than the cost of solar panels. However, just for the sake of playing along, before you even try to build a "nuclear generator" there are a few things that you need to consider:

1. The raw uranium would have to be formed into fuel rods of some sort, the exact configuration would depend on the type of reactor that you use. Uranium fuel rods are good for only about 2 years before they get so full of nuclear poisions from the fission products that it is almost impossible to keep a chain reaction going. You would have to have a somewhat steady source of uranium to use a reactor for a long time.

2. When you do have to change the fuel, it is HIGHLY radioactive and without the proper equipment or shielding you will die a very unpleasent death.

3. If you do manage to refuel the thing, you have to find some way of disposing of the fuel, your local landfill will not take it. Also, just throwing it in your backyard will not work, trust me the local health department will notice if all of your neighbors start dieing from radiation poisoning.

4. A little lesson on how nuclear power plants work: the nuclear reaction creates thermal energy that is use to heat water to create steam, this steam then is used to turn a turbine which generates electricity. The whole system would be far to big to be built in your kitchen, especially if built by someone with absolutely no nuclear engineering experience.

5. Let imagine that you are actually able to pull off a sustainable controlled fission chain reaction, which, by the way, took some of the most brilliant minds of the early 20th century (Einstein, Fermi, Bohr) to figure out in the first place. If you do not have a proper control system (i.e. control rods made of nuclear poisons) you will probably have another Chernobyl on your hands. Another very unpleasent death for you and will undoubtably attract the attention of the local authorities.

Sorry for the flippant nature of my response, however, I am hoping that it will convince you that, even if you are able to get your hands on uranium, that it is not something that should be attempted. There are many, many other things that you would have to consider before building your own nuclear plant but hopefully this will be enough to prove my point.

Instead of a nuclear generator, have you considered wind power? I am sure that you can build a windmill for a lot cheaper than either a nuclear generator or solar panels. Or, live without electricity. If you are not willing to pay for it, you should not have it.

Not gonna happen mat eeven if nuclear power plants could be made that small, you would be paying more than 25,000 for it

lol, ur dumb. it scares me to know ur out there, please dont have children. guess the radiation will take care of that. guess darwin was right again

Forget building your own nuclear power plant; it is a high tech deal which would cost millions of pounds. The radiation shielding alone would weigh many tons and cost a fortune. If you can find some weapons grade uranium, however, your financial problems are solved: buy some, and sell it to terrorists, who would love to have some and will pay a fortune for it. Please keep Scotland Yard up to speed on this, however; I would prefer not to see London or New York go up in a mushroom cloud.

I can only respond to you in one way with a question such as this....Your Stupid.

Ill pretend you are joking and play along...

Ok this is quite an easy task... Once you get the uranium you need from your local drug/enriched uranium dealer, make sure you handle it with care. I find it very usefull to use wet towels which will make the radioactivity sliperry and fall right off with the water dripping in the towel and not make it in to your hands. You can then separate it in to two bathces. Use the first one for smoking purposes. Smoking enriched uranium will give you trips not even acid and shrooms put together could achieve. But once the fun is over get back to work. You say you want to build it in the kitchen. Last time I built one of this suckers I used my kitchen sink. It is usually made of aluminum which will be very usefull isolating the radiation emmited by the uranium. Plug your ktchen sink so there is no radioactivity flowing throwgh the sewerage which would be a deffinite way to get caught and we dont want that. Fill your kitchen sink with water (you can use tap although the less suspended solids in the water the less corrosion and incrustation you will have in your turbines so I would reccomend using evian or something of the sort.) The water will get very hot and steam will start comming out. This is good, steam is what will make your turbine run and produce your beautifull free electricity. Now you need to harness all that gorgeous steam and use it to run a turbine. I would reccomend using a standard floor wind fan to be placed on top of the sink. Usually, a wind fan uses energy to run, but now the raising steam will make the turbines on the fan to rotate and the little electric motor will start working as a generator thus producing electricity. Now make sure you use wet towels all around your installation, since they will keep everything cool and isolate most of the radiation comming out of the system. Also remember to moisten your towels every 5 or 6 hours with a garden hose. The last issue you need to take care of is the steam. This steam is supposed to be highly toxic and radioactive but truth be told, no one has proved such mumbo jumbo so I would just get rid of the problem by buying some AC duct and run it straight in to my chimmney. If you dont have one, then just send the vapors straight in to a high point in the house, this will make em go away. Now, what you must do is plug your fan in to your electrical input in your house, right before the fuse box. This will provide electricity to any appliance wired in your home. If you notice that this is not producing enough electricity you can use an additional wind fan on top of the first one and you would have something like a dual cycle... Yeah I guess we can call it a dual cycle. Let me know if you come up with new and better solutions to my design since I am having some problems with mine although my house lights up beautifully. That is if you dont mind most of your lights to look green. Something to do with radiation or something...

Weapons grade uranium will poison your home and is not useful for electric power generation. And it's illegal. Glad you aren't my neighbor!

How long to soldiers get to come home for a visit during a 12 month deployment?

I heard they get 3 weeks actually at home but then I was told they only get 10 days at home. Does anyone know just how much time they actually get at home with their families?

2 weeks R&R, they do not count travel time to their home of record or whatever destination they choose after that the clock is ticking

In general, if authorized R&R, it is 2 weeks. This may or may not include travel time. However, not all will receive R&R and of those who do, not all will be allowed to take it out of country. The only way to know for sure how much R&R (if any) a specific soldier is getting is to ask his chain of command.

As a side note for Stop Lossed (poster above me)-- the same thing happened to my husband. He got a 4 day weekend in Qatar for his R&R.

For Clueless- Korea is not a deployment. It is a PCS. The same rules and reguations apply as any other base. He certainly could have taken some leave time as he is authorized 30 days per year. Whether he decided to use those days to come back to the states or not was his call.

Well most get two weeks of CAD which means they can't go anywhere but the base where they are stationed so they can recooperate from the deployment, then the leave is usually based on how much time they have accumulated. You can find all this information online just by typing the name of your soldiers base into google and figure it out from there. Leave times differ for some soldiers.

My husband was deployed to Iraq for 15 months and was only allotted 2 weeks and when he was deployed for 12 months he was allowed 10 days. I dont believe their time actually starts until they sign into their USO at the arriving airport.

This was my situation--hope it helped.

Usually 2 weeks. Their travel time cuts into that. So depending on flights - it may be only 10 days.

12 month deployments get 2 weeks R&R( when authorized) the clock starts the day they arrive CONUS, even if that isn't 'home'

not everyone gets it, either.

Not long enough!!! I couldnt get midtour one deployment so the sent me to Qatar for 4 days. What a waist of time.

My son was in the army in Korea for 18 months and couldn't come home the whole time. I hope this is not the case for you
