Regarding purchasing a new home; Is a great room considered a formal room?

I am purchasing a new home and rather than showing a living room in the floor plans they are indicating a great room. The upgrades that come with the home only pertain to formal rooms so is a great room considered to be a formal room?

Great room is more of a floor plan style. Some homes have a formal living room AND a family room.

Great room is single living room area. Usually the area is separated from the kitchen with by a breakfast or low counter top. The dining area is also included in this one large space. Great for family & entertaining because the slave cooking in the kitchen can socialize with everyone too. (LOL)

No, a great room is your family room and therefore a casual room. Most homes also have a formal living and dining room as well. There are house plans that delete the formal and only offer the great room but that is a design choice you will have to make. If you don't care to have a formal living room, it 's fine but the great room would not be considered formal.

no. it's considered to be a family room.
