How to test My home water and does your home water hurts too?

I live in Newyork Brooklyn, I just moved there and water is like insane it literally hurts and burn skin, So is there way to check water if there is something wrong with it , Like is there self water test kit by which i can check chlorine,sodium,ph level,hardness, and lead levels if they are normal ...Also what other steps i can take. Expect talking to home owner!
