Using an aerobics ball, put the ball between the small of your back and a wall; while gently pressing against the ball to keep it from falling, place your hands on your hips and do about 25 squats. It's great for your back as well as your thighs.
aerobic exercises aren't really for "toning" muscles. that's what calisthenics and weight training is for. aerobics will help you lower your body fat percentage so you can actually see the current muscle tone you already have beneath the fat because fat sits on top of muscle for the most part.
some aerobic exercises you can do at home are jump-roping, running up and down the stairs, stair toe touches. if you want more options you should invest in a step. they aren't too expensive but then you can do a lot more aerobics and vary it up so you don't get bored. there are entire workout dvds and classes at gyms dedicated to The Step.
