How much does it cost to heat home?

I'm a 1st time home buyer looking to buy a ranch style home in CT, a little under 1,000 square feet. I can't find an estimate of oil costs anywhere, and the companies won't give them to me unless I've got the place. I'm just trying to find out if buying this home is even affordable for me;

How much does it actually cost to heat YOUR home in the winter with oil? Please, any reasonable estimate would help me out a lot to start planning if I can budget this or not.

Heating oil involves some kind of coil heating and that is expensive over time. If I were you, I'd rather look into heating and cooling air conditioning. Good for winter and summer and much easier to install and maintain. Good Luck!

You need to check how well the home is insulated since that can make a huge difference. Make sure that the roof is well insulated.

Some people ask sellers for their previous bills to see how much they'd have to pay. With the way real estate market is right now, I don't think sellers will object to showing you their bills.

Keep in mind the bills depend on how cold the winter is, and every winter is different. So you can't get the exact numbers anyhow.

In our area to realitor can get this info for you. They can also ask the current owner for you I think. Our home costs about $220 to heat in the winter. We have alot of windows, and we live in Michigan. our house is 1300 sq ft. You will have to find out how the insulation is, beacuse it does make a difference.
